Final visual book
Brainstorming:
- The Nine Lives of a Cat: A lose narrative of a cat using its nine lives. Would use collage elements such as those in Cornell's and Dettmer's works such as newspaper clipping and medical illustrations in order to communicate the nature of each accident. Popup elements would be used for the cat.
- A Coming of Age Narrative of Gender and Sexual Minorities (LGBT+): Collage work using medical illustrations, elements such as the paper cutting in the 9th image, hollowed out elements, and drawers like those found in Duchamp's suitcases would suggest hiding one's identity.
- Sexist Expectations of Girls: A princess takes over a fairy tale that originally is about a prince trying to rescue her. She breaks the format of the book, literally popping out (popup), and explores the nooks and crannies (drawers, envelopes, etc) in order to rescue herself.
- Difficulties of Poverty in the U.S.: Using a children's book format, an image of poverty in the U.S. is shaped. Flaps are opened to reveal food stamps, popups of eviction notices when pages are turned, and a landscape of a low income neighborhood using Korzer-Robinson style layering.
- Abusive Relationship: Appearing to be a happy and romantic book on the surface, elements such as drawers and flaps slowly reveal dark elements. Medical illustrations to suggest injuries, collages of P.S.A.s, found objects such as birth control packets, perhaps
